Columbus downs Lin. Northeast Over Weekend

LINCOLN – Columbus High was able to down Lincoln Northeast in a tough round of games over the weekend.

Columbus took down Lincoln Northeast 5-1 with Alyssa Turner, Kenned Jones, Katie Stachura, and Paige Jeffrey all snagging RBI. Columbus dropped their two other matches against tough opponents in Beatrice and Blair, but were able to plate 7 runners throughout the two matches.

Head Coach Paul Braun says, “We played well all day except for the 6th inning of the Blair game.  We hit the ball well, just unfortunately a lot were directly at people.  We faced alot of adversity today – in all three games we were behind, or tied ,and responded by either taking a lead or tying the game.  We had some players step up at different points of all games at the plate. Defensively it was a pretty good day. Rebecca Hazlett did a great job in center field , we had limited mistakes until the end of the Blair game.  Pitching was good. Alyssa Turner ended the day with 12 strikeouts, Katie Stachura pitched well and Melani Jones had a couple scoreless innings for us.  The bright moment was a 6 run inning in the third inning of the Blair game to take the lead.  All and all it was a positive day to build from.  We had alot of quality plays, we need to keep working hard and moving forward a lot to play for yet as conference and district approaches”
