Beatrice Police Provide More Details on Arson Arrest

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police say a woman arrested on suspicion of arson was the resident of an apartment unit burned in a fire Tuesday morning, east of the Gage County Courthouse.

Firefighters were summoned to the three-level brick building, to a blaze in the north-side, basement level unit.

Police Lieutenant Jay Murphy says officers arrested 35-year-old Alesha Acevedo Tuesday afternoon, at police headquarters.

Murphy said a witness told police she observed the woman later identified as Acevedo coming out of the apartment building, shortly before the fire was reported.

When police contacted Acevedo near the scene, Murphy said she had singed eyebrows and eyelids…and had a lighter in her possession.

A Nebraska Fire Marshal Investigator told authorities that Acevedo had made comments to the owner of the apartment building on Monday.  One statement allegedly made, was, “if I can’t live here, no one can”.  Murphy says police spoke with the state fire investigator yesterday afternoon.

Murphy says Acevedo had been assaulted Sunday night, which resulted in the arrest of Theotis Deyampart, for domestic assault.  Both Deyampart and Acevedo are from Las Vegas, according to police.

Both are being held in the Gage County Jail.
