Crashed car goes up in flames, driver cited for DUI


OMAHA, NE (Matthew Walsh / News Channel Nebraska) – An Omaha Street was closed for about three hours three hours Sunday morning after an alleged DUI crash caused a fire.

Police responded to the crash at 50th and Ames just before 4 AM.

According to police, the vehicle was driving when it left the roadway, struck a fire hydrant and hit a tree.

Shortly after the car caught on fire. Several witnesses pulled the unrestrained driver from the vehicle.

Omaha Fire put out the fire and transported the driver to the hospital.

The driver was identified as 22-year-old Dominick Davis of Omaha and he was cited for DUI, negligent driving and not wearing a seat belt.
