Discoverer Boys Mark Several Top Places at State

OMAHA – Multiple Discoverer boys proved they were amongst the best in Nebraska, at the Class A State Track Championships.

In the jumping category, Blake Petersen marked top finishes in Triple and Long Jump. In the Triple, Petersen took 6th with a jump of 43-02.50, while in Long, Petersen took 5th on a jump of 21-07.

Michael Koch, who missed a majority of the season for an injury, returned to form at the end of the year, taking 4th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.73. This marks the 3rd time Koch has medaled in the event. Koch also competed on the 4×400 relay team that snagged a 11th place finish, with teammates  Santiago Ramirez-Marino, Curtis Briggs, and Nicholas Stoeckle.

Stoeckle also took 7th place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.87. Stoeckle set the school record in the event during the prelims, where he ran a 39.76. (First place won with a time of 38.73, and second ran a 39.87). The Columbus High track account tweeted that Stoeckle was sick the morning of the State meet, before setting the school record.

Sergio Arcos took 12th in the High Jump, on a height of 6-02. 4 jumpers hit 6-02, while 7 jumpers finished at 6-04.

The boys finished 15th in the team rankings. Lincoln High won the team category with 76 points, followed by Lincoln Southwest who had 75.5 points.
