COLUMBUS – The Discoverers are preparing for a challenging road trip to Omaha where they will face a top-ten foe on Friday night.
Columbus High continues district play with a tilt against No. 8 Creighton Prep. The Discoverers are looking to build off of their performance against Elkhorn South last week, where they started strong before ultimately falling 62-14.
“We came out and made a couple of big plays in that football game,” Columbus High Head Coach Craig Williams shared. “But from that point on I think Elkhorn South really started to buckle down and started executing. They came out and raised their level a little bit and I don’t think we matched it…”
At the midway point of the season Williams is pleased with what he’s seeing from his team that had limited varsity experience at the start of the 2018 campaign. However, the Discoverers are working on putting a complete game together, which will be necessary to get a victory over the Junior Jays.
“I believe in every game this year we’ve been within three points or had the lead at the end of the first quarter, or right towards the end of the first quarter. We’ve just got to cary that out for a full football game,” Williams added.
Creighton Prep enters Friday night at 3-2 with losses coming against top-ten opponents. Williams is hoping a methodical offensive approach will put the Discoverers in a position to succeed.
“We’ve stressed to our guys that we’ve got to keep our offense out there and move the sticks and keep getting first downs. We can’t put our defense in bad situations. [We’ll] try to shorten the game a little bit and give ourselves a chance in the fourth quarter…”
The contest will be broadcast on News Channel Nebraska TV and streamed online at NCNsportsNow.com with live coverage starting at 6:40 PM
