Gotschall Makes Dream Come True, with Commitment to Central

COLUMBUS – Columbus Lakeview’s Mallory Gotschall set out a goal to play volleyball for the Raiders, and that dream is coming to fruition.

Gotschall follows her sister Molly, who competed and excelled for the Central volleyball squad during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Mallory also surpassed the Lakeview school record for digs by 2, with a total of 1,291, a record that was previously held by her sister .

“You know Mallory, I think is one of the most under-rated liberos in the area. She really works hard, and she’s a competitor, and she will play so hard for us, and give us everything she’s got. And that’s what we’ve built our program around,” says Central Head Volleyball Coach Mary Young.

Gotschall also ranks in the top 5 all-time in games played, matches played, serve attempts, and serve percentage at Lakeview, and controlled the defense every time she stepped on the court, says Lakeview Head Coach K.C. Belitz.

Gotschall says, “I always wanted to stay local, just by family, but once season ended with how much I missed volleyball I knew that I had to keep playing. Central’s been a part of my life ever since I was really little, and volleyball is obviously very important to me. So I’ve always kind of wanted to be a part of the central volleyball program.”

Gotschall says she plans on studying occupational therapy.

The Raiders volleyball team departs Monday evening to compete in the NJCAA Division 2 national tournament.

Gotschall joins Scotus’ Shania Borchers in this year’s Raiders Volleyball signing class. Columbus High setter Rylee Kwapnioski also plans on signing her letter of intent to play for CCC later this month.
