Local Fisherman Aim to Become King of the Canal

GEONA – Fishermen from across the area made their way to the Loup Canal near Genoa, to earn the title King of the Canal.

Team Catfish President Tony Scheffler, of Fullerton, says approximately 100 teams are competing to catch the largest overall weight in fish, and each group will submit their top 10 heaviest catches on Sunday.

Scheffler says being able to support the local area is a big positive to holding the tournament on the Loup Canal.

“The response has been fabulous. It’s so fun seeing the same faces coming back every year, because I think their enjoying it, and we’re going to have a perfect weekend for fishing,” says Scheffler.

The winning team will receive $2,000, along with smaller cash prizes for those who finish at the top of the pack. If you would like to see the big fish reeled in over the weekend, the weigh-in will be at noon on Sunday, at the Headworks camping ground.
