Mount Mercy, Peru State split doubleheader on Bobcats’ Alumni Day

PERU, Neb. – The play of both Peru State’s and Mount Mercy’s bench was a big headline in Saturday’s Heart of America Athletic Conference match-up at the Al Wheeler Activities Center in Peru. Both mens teams combined for 42 bench points, but the Bobcats held the advantage on the scoreboard in the 95-69 win.

Peru State put four players in double-figures, including a game-high 22 points from Quantice Hunter. He also grabbed four rebounds. LJ Westbrook added 17 points and nine rebounds. Nolan Cass had 14 points and Andre Frazier-Stanley chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats shot 52.3% from the floor, while the Mustangs were only able to hit 31.5% of their shots.

Mount Mercy was led by Ed Mickevicius, who ended with 13 points.

Peru State is now 11-7 overall and 5-2 Heart North. Mount Mercy drops to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the Heart North.

Their were 11 different lead changes and the game was tied 10 times in the womens matchup. Mount Mercy would outscore Peru State 35-25 in the second half on their way to a 63-56 victory.

Ashley Dolan led the Mustangs with a game-high 21 points. She grabbed five rebounds.

The Bobcats had three players in double figures. Lauren Beath had 17 points, Claire Cudney added 13 and Abigail Niebrugge scored 10. Swaranga Fernando finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Mount Mercy improves to 4-14 overall and secured their first conference win this season and currently sit at 1-6 in the Heart North

Peru State is 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the Heart North.

Both Peru State teams are on the road Wednesday at Culver-Stockton College.
