Iowa powers past Nebraska in series-clinching win behind eight-run inning

IOWA CITY — Izaya Fullard hit a two-run homer in an eight-run fifth inning as Iowa broke open a tie game for a 17-9 win over Nebraska on Saturday.

NU starter Nate Fisher and five relievers allowed 17 hits and 12 earned runs as the Huskers (21-13, 10-4) lost their second straight and third in their past four games.

Ben Norman added a three-run blast for the Hawkeyes (23-14, 9-5) in the fourth.

Spencer Schwellenbach, who was 3 for 4 on the day, and Aaron Palensky hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to get the Huskers even.

But Iowa scored eight runs — all with two outs — in the bottom of the fifth to take command.

Palensky, Gunner Hellstrom and Mojo Hagge each had two hits for the Huskers.

Norman was 3 for 6 for Iowa, while Fullard and Mitchell Boe also drove in three.

The Huskers will look to avoid the sweep Sunday as the series wraps up at 1:05 p.m. on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM.
