The longest-tenured Central Florida assistant is leaving his alma mater to join Scott Frost’s staff at Nebraska, according to the Orlando Sentinel. And NU may also have its offensive coordinator, too.
Sean Beckton — UCF’s tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator — is headed to NU to work for Frost. The Sentinel cited an anonymous source that said Beckton preferred the clarity of Frost’s staff to the uncertainty at UCF, where Josh Heupel was just hired as head coach.
Beckton is a member of UCF’s Hall of Fame with nearly 2,500 yards receiving as a collegian. He then worked as a UCF assistant for 17 years — over two different time periods — and was one of the few UCF assistants Frost chose to retain from former coach George O’Leary’s staff. As a receivers coach, Beckton sent several players to the NFL, including All-Pro Brandon Marshall.
Nebraska has a receivers coaching position open on its staff. If Beckton joins the staff in that capacity, only one job — offensive coordinator — would remain. That could fall to Troy Walters — UCF’s offensive coordinator as multiple reports out of Orlando suggest the 2017 Broyles Award finalist will be joining NU’s staff as well.
