O’NEILL – A 26-year-old Atkinson man will be spending at least a decade in jail for the death of his infant son.

Holt County District Court Judge Mark Kozisek sentenced Michael Schroeder to 20 to 40 years in prison on Monday. Schroeder pleaded no contest to child abuse resulting in death back in March.

A court affidavit filed by an Atkinson police officer said Schroeder’s son, Kalium D. Ebsen, was taken to West Holt Memorial Hospital last October after he was found unresponsive.

The almost nine-month-old boy was then flown to an Omaha hospital, where he died a few days later.

The officer said Schroeder acknowledged bumping the boy’s head a couple of times.

Scroeder was given credit in court for 184 days already served in jail.
