Beatrice Avoids Electric Problems, With Weekend Snow

BEATRICE – Despite heavy, wet snow clinging to trees and utility lines, this weekend’s blast of snow caused almost no power problems in Beatrice.

City Electric Superintendent Pat Feist says just one isolated drop in electricity occurred.

The one isolated problem happened at a home in the two-hundred block of South 20th…the east part of the city.

Feist said he was a little surprised at the lack of electric problems with the heavy snow, but that’s likely because it was a calm snow event.

Beatrice received seven to eight inches of snow, which started falling at about eight p.m., Friday.   Amounts across southeast Nebraska ranged as high as 14 inches.

Feist says keeping trees in good shape in the city, helps during winter storms and snowfall.

Street crews Monday morning were continuing their work removing the heavy, wet snow from streets, with trucks piling it next to the Big Blue River at 1st and Ella Streets.
