BEATRICE –  The Special Olympics Torch and run made its way through downtown Beatrice Wednesday night, with runners accompanied by Beatrice Police and Firefighters.  Officer Derrick Hosick is the coordinator for the run, which is a local law enforcement kick-off to the Nebraska Special Olympics.

Hosick says the event is a meaningful one for both the Special Olympians and for law officers.

A gathering was held along North Fifth Street at the completion of the run, downtown.  Hosick says he’d like to keep having the event hosted by police and fire.

The Beatrice-area Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics started at 19th & Court Street, finishing up near Traubels Popcorn Stand in the downtown.
The event precedes the summer Special Olympics Games held in Omaha.
