Beatrice Utility Revenue to Help Fund Splash Pad
The Rocket, at Astro Park

BEATRICE – The Beatrice City Public Properties Department will receive $20,000 over two years from the Beatrice Plus Program, to help fund installation of a splash pad at Astro Park.

City Councilmen approved the allocation last night from the fund that derives support from voluntary utility bill payer contributions.  The $10,000 allocation over each of the next two years was approved by a Beatrice Plus Advisory Board.

City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the project equipment and installation was part of the city’s general fund budget this year.

Earthwork has begun for an indoor batting facility at Hannibal Park.  Construction of that building is expected in late summer.  Baseball and softball season is getting started in the community. Tempelmeyer says Beatrice is hosting a major softball tournament on April 28th and 29th, with about 70 teams playing at Hannibal Park and the Scott Street ball field complex.  A 30-team tournament was just recently held.

The city council also approved a $5,000 funding request of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce to help cover expenses of this summer’s Homestead Days celebration.  Elected officials approved a request for $1,850 from the Beatrice Noon Kiwanis Club, for the annual MUDECAS basketball tournament.
