Columbus Woman To Serve Over Six Months In Jail For December 2017 Incident

COLUMBUS – A Columbus woman will serve over six months in jail following an incident that originally carried domestic assault and multiple drug possession charges.

The Columbus Police Department says that officers responded to multiple reports of a dispute at 1321 15th Street on December 28, 2017. A male and female subject were found arguing in the kitchen, and the male stated that his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Katie Goertzen, had slapped him across the face.

Officers said that the male had visible redness on the side of his face, and Goertzen admitted to striking him. The male said that he was trying to get the keys to his vehicle from Goertzen when the altercation occurred.

Goertzen was placed under arrest for domestic assault, and multiple glass smoking pipers were found in her purse following a search. Two small plastic bags were also discovered, containing marijuana and methamphetamine.

Goertzen was found guilty of two counts of attempt of a class four felony, and attempt of a class one misdemeanor. The three counts carry a combined jail sentence of 192 days, which Goertzen began serving on November 14.
