BEATRICE – Thursday night in downtown Beatrice was the annual Community Connection event…a chance for people to meet with their local first-responders, get a free hot dog and enjoy the evening.

Beatrice Police and Beatrice Fire and Rescue members hold the event in September along Fifth Street downtown, to promote community relations.

Chief of Police Bruce Lang says it also gives citizens a chance to voluntarily help police, fire and rescue…through information.

Thursday night’s event featured the Beatrice High School Band, BHS cheer leaders, football players and members of the Special Olympics football team.

Several Beatrice Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics were on hand to meet with the public.

Students, band members and cheerleaders could receive a ticket for a free hot dog from Julie’s Hot Dog Stand.  Games, popcorn, and displays of Beatrice Police and Fire Vehicles were included in the Community Connection event from five-30 to seven p.m.
