CPD Declares March Alcohol Enforcement Campaign A Success

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Police Department is very please with the results of a recent alcohol enforcement campaign.

The CPD conducted a specialized traffic enforcement campaign from March 8th – 31st to prevent alcohol related accidents. The timeframe of the campaign was due to March Madness events, spring break, and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, which all tend to cause higher traffic accidents related to alcohol.

During the campaign, a total of 30 citations and 135 warnings were issued. In addition, a total of four arrests were made for the offenses of driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and one fugitive was taken into custody.

The CPD was awarded a grant for $5,750 from the Nebraska Highway Safety Office to conduct the campaign. Overall, the department declared the campaign a success as only one alcohol related accident was reported, and it was a non-injury accident.
