COLUMBUS – The Columbus Community Hospital is teaching healthy habits to area youths.
CCH’s 8-week Food, Fitness, & Fun Program began on Thursday afternoon, and is a free after school program for children between 2nd and 5th grade. The program is giving children the opportunity to learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices through different fitness activities, and learning how to eat healthy when at home.
Each week will have different topic of discussion, which include positive body image, reducing screen time, mindfulness, eating appropriate portions, and talking about the role of advertising and media on food and beverage choices.
CCH dietitian Susan Olmer says that at the end of the program, the children will receive the recipes for the healthy snacks to take home with them, and all of the fitness activities are things that can be done at home as well, which is Olmer says is especially helpful during the cold winter months.
