FREMONT – Midland alum and author David Hendee is visiting the Keene Memorial Library this week.
Hendee is the author of the book “Nebraska: 150 Years Told Through 93 Counties.” To continue celebrating Nebraska’s 150th birthday, Keene Memorial Library is bringing Hendee back to the community for a book signing in time for the holidays.
Library Director Tina Walker says the book would make a wonderful gift for Christmas, or any other occasion. She says it’s also perfect for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to travel through the state of Nebraska and see the different landscapes.
“If you don’t travel the state very often, you don’t get to see Western Nebraska, or the Sandhills, this book is an opportunity for you to see what Nebraska looks like,” said Walker. “There are 93 counties represented in the book. Each page has multiple pictures from the county.”
The book highlights the 93 counties and their historical and culturally significant places. The book also features photographs from the “Bridges: Sharing Our Past to Enrich the Future” exhibit. Walker says some of the pages covering Dodge County include pictures from Fremont.
“The large photo that they have is the John C. Fremont Days parade. It has a historical tour and entertainment section,” said Walker. “The winning photo for the Bridges Exhibit was Vince O’Connor’s store. It was the Yankee Peddler. It’s their old store before they moved.”
Author David Hendee will be at the Keene Memorial Library on Thursday, November 16th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The book will be available to purchase at the library, and Hendee will be available to sign them.
