COLUMBUS – A newly formed council aimed at promoting sports and activities in the area is having success.

The Columbus Area Sports & Activities Council is drawing people to Columbus by promoting the region as a premier destination for sports and entertainment.

Council Director Lynelle Schrunk says one of the group’s goals is to bring outside money into town by having Columbus offer a wide variety of youth activities.

“When sporting events happen locally Columbus and the surrounding communities win because they don’t have to leave Columbus to attend and participate,” Schrunk shares. “We want our visitors shopping, eating and spending the night in the Columbus Area.”

Hundreds of kids and their families attended the Columbus Youth Activities Sign-up and Info Day earlier this month at the Ramada where more than 30 local organizations were represented. Schrunk says there will be plenty more events throughout the year.

If you’d like to help the effort Schurnk says volunteers are always needed. She can be reached at by phone 402-562-4234 or email at
