BEATRICE – One person was arrested following the Sunday pursuit of a vehicle that began in Beatrice and ended east of the city.
A Beatrice Police officer, at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, observed a vehicle traveling down a street and one of its back doors opened up. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away.
A pursuit followed east on Court Street and then east on U.S. Highway 136, at speeds up to 90-miles-per-hour. The officer terminated the pursuit about a mile east of the city.
Shortly afterward, a rural resident reported seeing a car pull onto their property and stop behind a barn. A Gage County Sheriff’s deputy was sent to the scene and two females were observed walking in that area.
Law officers contacted the pair, and they allegedly admitted they were the occupants of the vehicle that had been chased.
Authorities arrested 38-year-old Heidi Kopf, the driver of the vehicle. She was booked for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. The second adult female was not arrested or cited.
