GENEVA – Trees are very valuable in our landscapes. They provide us with beauty, shade, oxygen, and better resale on our homes.  Maintaining your trees ensures they have healthy growth.  When they have a disease or insect problem, it is up to you to manage those pests to help them live many years.

This Wednesday residents of Clay County and the surrounding area will get an opportunity to learn about tree. care.   Nichole Stoner, Gage County Extension educator will be running the workshop and says a lot will be covered.

“Watering, insect and disease problems, and general care.  Planting, pruning, and a little bit on shrubs.  We will cover mostly on trees, but a little bit on shrubs and a lot on how to take care of them.”

With the crazy weather, we have had this spring so far, Stoner says they should be just fine but it does give you extra time to plant.

“It will maybe extend our planting season a little bit.  I don’t know if there would be anything else affected tree wise due to the weather.  It shouldn’t affect too much on how they’re cared for.”

The Event will be held from 5:30-7pm at the Clay County Activities Building in Clay Center.  This tree program is only $5.00 and will cover light refreshments and your educational materials.   You can pre-register by calling 402-762-3644 or by emailing

A repeat of the program will be held at the Fillmore County Extension Office on May 1st starting at 5:30 p.m.  Please pre-register by April 25th with Nebraska Extension in Fillmore County. You can pre-register by calling 402-759-3712 or by emailing
