COLUMBUS – It was a hard-fought road battle last week for the Lakeview Vikings against the undefeated Bishop Neumann Cavaliers, but a late fourth quarter touchdown gave Bishop Neumann the 29-22 victory, handing Lakeview its first loss of the season.
It was an even matchup between the Vikings and the Cavaliers, who were tied 13-13 heading into halftime. Lakeview was able to take a 22-21 lead into the fourth quarter, but were unable to hold back the Cavalier offense for a late score and 2-point conversion, as Bishop Neumann remained undefeated at 5-0.
Lakeview fell to 4-1 on the year with the loss, which doubled as the first loss of the season for the Vikings in Class C1 District 4. Lakeview is now getting set for its last non-district game of the season, as they will face another undefeated team in the Pierce Bluejays this Friday night on their home field.
Pierce is coming off a 42-14 win on the road over Wayne last week, and are currently tied for first place in District 3 of Class C1 with Boone Central/Newman Grove. The matchup with the Vikings will also serve as the Bluejays’ final non-district game of the season.
Lakeview head coach Kurt Frenzen says that his team’s mindset hasn’t changed following their first loss of the year, and that they are still as intense as ever on the practice field in preparation for the big game against Pierce.
The Vikings and the Bluejays kick off Friday night at Lakeview High School at 7:00 PM.
