Former Chadron State and North Platte star Danny Woodhead announced his retirement from the NFL late Friday night on Instagram.
Woodhead finished his professional career with 517 rushes for 2,238 yards and 15 touchdowns for four teams. He also had 300 receptions for 2,698 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He started his career in 2009 with the New York Jets before moving on to the New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens.
At Chadron State, Woodhead set a then-all-division NCAA rushing record with 7,962 career yards, including a single-season mark of 2,756. He wrapped up his college career with 9,350 all-purpose yards and 109 total touchdowns.
“10 years! Wow, God had crazy plans for a small little kid from North Platte,” Woodhead wrote on Instagram. “It’s been a wild ride and feel so blessed He allowed me to do what I loved for so long.”
