CENTRAL CITY – The David City seniors are one win away from a state title.

David City defeated Yutan 11-9 at Kernel Field on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten heading into the final day of the state tournament.

The DC bats couldn’t be contained as the seniors notched 13 hits and plated runs in every inning. David City was in complete control until the bottom of the 7th where pitching struggles allowed Yutan to bring six home, but it wasn’t enough.

Andy Lyons led David City at the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in two runs. Nolan Helgoth also had multiple hits with a 2-for-4 performance and two RBI.

Zach Banks had a noteworthy night for Yutan in the defeat by going 3-for-5 with an RBI.

David City will take on Wilber at 5 PM on Thursday. If they win they will be state champs, if they lose a second game will be played for the championship.

News Channel Nebraska will broadcast the contest(s) on channel 30.1 (Grand Island) and 48.1 (Columbus). The game(s) will also be streamed online at NCNSportsNow.com with live coverage beginning at 4:55 PM.
