CENTRAL CITY – The Wilber seniors will be playing for a state championship.
After a 24-hour rain delay Wilber held on for a 9-7 victory over PWG on Wednesday at Kernel Field.
The first six-and-a-half innings were played on Tuesday in which PWG had a 7-0 lead after two innings, but Wilber battled back and took a 9-7 lead after a six-run 5th inning. The game resumed in the bottom of the 6th on Wednesday and Wilber held PWG scoreless in the top of the 7th.
Wilber was led at the plate by Hunter Cerveny who went 4-for-4 with a triple while also scoring two runs. Tyler Rezabeck (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Matt Petracek (1-for-3, 2 RBI) each drove in multiple runs.
Connor Wood (3-for-4, 2 R), Spencer Wichman (3-for-3, R, BB), Jake Simonson (2-for-4, R, RBI), and Drake Kunze (2-for-3, R, RBI, BB) all had multiple hits for PWG in the defeat.
Wilber will get a rematch with David City at 5 PM on Thursday. They will need to defeat DC twice to win the state title.
The championship series will be broadcast live on NCN channel 30.1 (Grand Island) and 21.1 (Beatrice) and will also be streamed online at NCNSportsNow.com.
