Omaha, NE.—For the second straight day a top Nebraska Democrat is in the middle of a family feud.

As News Channel Nebraska first reported, 24 hours ago it was State Party Chair Jane Kleeb. Now its the head of the Douglas County Democratic Party, Crystal Rhoades.

Rhoades is under fire for endorsing Congressional hopeful Kara Eastman, who is battling former Congressman Brad Ashford in the party’s May primary.

Kara Eastman

In an interview with NCN (see video above) Rhoades defended her decision to endorse Eastman, insisting its personal not political.

Rhoades says Eastman came to her in December, 2016 —months before Ashford said he was running—and asked Rhoades to back her: Rhoades agreed.

Brad Ashford

Ashford’s campaign manager tells NCN whether Ashford was in the race or not, “It is the responsibility of a chair to remain impartial. ”

Jim Rogers is also the former executive director of the state party: “(Rhoades) having pledged to support Kara back in December would not only impede Brad’s candidacy, but anyone else who may have been looking to run,” says Rogers.

Rhoades points out that Ashford has the backing of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
