Deadly crash shuts down JFK south for hours

OMAHA, Neb. — Authorities are investigating a deadly crash on the JFK Freeway that shut down traffic in the southbound lanes for approximately two-and-a-half hours Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3 a.m.

According to initial reports one vehicle was northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with another near Cornhusker Road.

One person was dead at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital for treatment. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

Southbound lanes of the JFK were shut down as officers investigated the crash. They were reopened around 5:30 Saturday morning.

Identities of those involved in the crash have yet to be released.

This is the second fatal crash in that area in eight days. On January 5th, Khalil Shemar Jones and Shamus D. Dean were killed in a 3 a.m. crash on the JFK near Chandler Road.
