Omaha police arrest 31-year-old man in connection with South Omaha slaying

Omaha police said Thursday that they had arrested a man in connection with the Wednesday afternoon slaying of a 32-year-old man in South Omaha.

Matthew Arnold, 31, was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Matthew E. Johnson.

Police said investigators saw Arnold getting into a vehicle near 48th and Y Streets early Thursday morning and arrested him.

Johnson was killed Wednesday afternoon. About 4 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near 48th Avenue and Y Street. Johnson was taken to a hospital with CPR in progress, according to emergency dispatch reports. He later died at the hospital.
