Spring Junkstock, forced from its home by flooding, will take place at Sarpy County Fairgrounds

The spring Junkstock event, slated for April 26-28, is temporarily moving to the Sarpy County Fairgrounds.

The event’s permanent home, Sycamore Farms near Waterloo, was damaged last month when floodwaters covered the 132-acre property. When water receded, the farm was covered in inches of mud and thousands of tons of sand.

The floodwaters also reached Junkstock founder Sara Alexander’s farmhouse on the land, Junkstock spokesperson Danelle Schlegelmilch said. In addition, the portion of West Dodge Road near the Elkhorn River — and Sycamore Farms — was heavily damaged and will not be repaired in time.

“The easy thing would be just to cancel,” Schlegelmilch said, “but that just isn’t our style.”

While cleanup continues, the festival will move to Springfield, where the fairgrounds have 30 acres of parking and multiple buildings of indoor space.

Despite the move, Schlegelmilch said Junkstock attendees will be able to shop from more than 150 vintage vendors and makers from across the U.S., as well as experience live music and food and drink from more than 20 food trucks and vendors. Children’s activities will include pony rides, face painting and bounce houses, among other kid-friendly stuff.

The fairgrounds are at 100 Main St. in Springfield, and parking is free. The event runs April 26 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with early bird hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; April 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission to the pet-friendly event is $10 at the gate for the day or $20 for the whole weekend. Early bird passes that include early Friday admission are $30. Children ages 12 and younger get in free.
